Navigating the DC Lottery for Pre-K

family education session at SkillZone
with Lindsay Ferrer, in partnership with

  • Have you heard about free DC pre-kindergarten, but haven’t yet done the research to figure out how it works or how to enroll your child? Confused about charter schools versus public schools?

  • Is your child 2 or 3 years old and you want to learn about the lottery process, but are dreading combing through DC government websites to learn more and make your choices?

  • Pretty savvy about DC public school options (DCPS and charter), but not sure which school is right for your child?

Whatever your level of knowledge, Navigating the DC Pre-K Lottery will provide insight on DC’s pre-k programs, the lottery system, and your family’s options, helping you find the right fit for your child.

The seminar will cover basic eligibility and lottery info, different pre-k models such as Montessori and bilingual programs, sources of data on schools, and tips for finding a school that fits your needs.

Adult / Couple admission is $50 for the public, $40 for elemeno members. Onsite child-minding services provided by our friends at Playwell for $10 per child.

Our series of sessions are complete and there are no more currently-scheduled sessions at this time. If you’re interested in learning more in the meantime, please fill out the request form below!

Playwell co-founders and owners Sarah Laryea and Lori Porcelli, both moms and therapists, bonded over a shared underlying philosophy around early childhood development - that play could help identify early developmental challenges and also address caregivers’ questions.  At Playwell, we are moms and pediatric and pre and postnatal therapists. Combined, we have several decades of experience in speech language pathology, occupational therapy, infant massage, lactation consultation, and pelvic floor therapy. We use our expertise to give caregivers and pre and postnatal women the information they need to enhance their children’s development and promote whole family wellness. As parents, we understand that you want to give your child the best opportunity, and we’re here to help.
