A stylish family club with coworking, indoor play, adult socials and booze – where do I sign up?

Keeping it together with a new baby, toddlers, or preschoolers is challenging.  Doing it while also balancing work, city living, and trying to keep some semblance of a social life can feel downright impossible.

Elemeno co-founders Liza Fox and Michael Campbell created their family club to be an oasis for young families in DC.  They set out to alleviate some of the challenges of being a new parent and raising young children in the city, providing a unique blend of family-focused services that up until now you could only find spread across the suburbs.  And they serve booze!

“When I was a new dad here in Capitol Hill, I didn’t know anything.  Where to go, what to do, how to handle it all.  I learned more from some brief conversations with other dads than I ever had before in my life,” said Michael.  “Right away I recognized the value of socializing with other parents who are in the same boat, or better yet who are a few oar strokes ahead.”

Michael and Liza wanted to provide a space where first-time parents and those with young children can relax, spend time together, and be confident their children are learning and having fun along the way.

“Membership is a little bit of everything – educational and fun for the kids, a beautiful work space for parents, a place to socialize with other families, and trustworthy, reliable babysitting.  You can’t get all of this anywhere else, and you can’t beat the value of having it in one place,” noted Liza.

Who gets online and searches 'I want a place where I can relax and my kid can learn and I can meet other parents and have a glass of wine or get some work done and occasionally attend a toddler rock concert'?

She and Michael described how it’s difficult to explain their club concept quickly to new people, because they provide something people don’t know to look for.  “Who gets online and searches ‘I want a place where I can relax and my kid can learn and I can meet other parents and have a glass of wine or get some work done and occasionally attend a toddler rock concert’?” she asked.  But that’s exactly the type of place they created in elemeno.

“We have about 350 member families, nearly all living right on the Hill, making it an awesome place for connecting and networking with others in our community,” added Michael.  “And since they’re all other parents with little kids, you immediately have something to talk about.”

Between the sparkling-clean and Montessori-inspired indoor play space, the parent coworking lounge, the STEM family lounge, and the regular member social events, there are plenty of opportunities to connect, sometimes commiserate, and always breathe a bit easier.

Liza added, “one of our members with a 4-year-old and an 18-month old recently told us this has been, ‘hands down, the best money she has spent since becoming a parent’.  She loves enjoying what we call ‘effortless family time’ because we take care of the details and she just has to show up and relax, without the guilt of screen time or the other things she uses to catch a little break.”

Elemeno is located on Barracks Row in Capitol Hill and information about membership and services can be found online at elemeno.club.
